How do you remove Oetiker clamps?
Cut the Oetiker clamp at the crimped loop, with the cutter jaws on the sides (parallel to the hose). Cutting on the flat edge (like you would do if installing the band) tightens the clamp further, and is rough going when trying to cut the band.
Where do hose clamps go?
Clamps should be installed so that 1/4 inch of hose is visible between the band and the hose end and approximately 1/4 inch between any two clamp’s bands. In short, it’s critically important to confirm the length of the pipe-to-hose adapter under the hose before installing a clamp or clamps.
How tight do hose clamps need to be?
The proper torque for screw type hose clamps is to tighten them until the rubber outer shell protrudes through the screw slot just enough to be even with the outside of the clamp. Any further is considered too tight and can cut into the hose, actually causing the hose to be loose after several heat cycles.
How are hose clamps sized?
To determine the size needed, install the hose (or tubing) on the fitting or pipe (which expands the hose), measure the outside diameter of the hose, then select a clamp that accommodates that diameter in about the middle of its range. The minimum diameter is 7/32″ and the maximum is about 1 3/4″.
What is a hose clamp used for?
A hose clamp or hose clip or hose lock is a device used to attach and seal a hose onto a fitting such as a barb or nipple.
Can you put two hose clamps together?
It is okay to combine multiple small diameter clamps to make a larger one. For example: two(2) 4″ clamps joined together will yield an 8″ diameter clamp assembly.
Can you clamp braided hose?
Recently, I discovered a way to clamp braided stainless steel hose with AN vise jaw inserts. As you can see in the photo, both the fitting and the hose are secured tightly. You probably don’t need to mark the hose anymore, but it’s never a bad idea just to be safe.
