What is vapor return line?
The vapor return line returns hot fuel, and vapor to the tank. It fights vapor lock by circulating cool fuel through the pump at all times. You can block it off if you have the exhaust crossover in the intake manifold blocked off, and your engine runs cool.
Is a fuel return line necessary?
You don’t need it with a mechanical pump. Mechanical pumps supply fuel based on RPM, and so long as you’re not running a big hipo mechanical pump, you’re fine without a return.
What is a fuel vapor hose?
It’s primary purpose is to return excess fuel from the carburetor to the fuel pump, however it serves other important functions as well. Aside from providing a path for excess fuel to return to the tank, the fuel return hose also prevents vapor lock and over pressurization from occurring within the carburetor.
What does a fuel vapor line do?
The purpose it serves is to prevent the fuel vapor from going into the atmosphere. Doing it right will not rob your car of any power whatsoever, but it will prevent form releasing gas into the air continuously. It could keep your garage from smelling like gas.
Does a carburetor have a fuel return line?
By running a return line that’s the same size as the feed line, you can eliminate that problem entirely.” Even carbureted engines can benefit from a bypass fuel pressure regulator. In contrast, a bypass regulator controls pressure by returning excess fuel out of the bottom port and back to the tank using a return line.
Does an electric fuel pump need a return line?
A return, while not necessary, is certainly nice to have as it makes the fuel pump’s life much easier. It keeps the fuel pump from fighting dead head pressure and that will make the pump ultimately last longer.
Is fuel hose OK for coolant?
Fuel line is a petroleum-resistant nitrile tube with a covering that resists weathering, ozone and heat and can be used for ethanol-laced fuels and diesel fuel. It should, however, not be used on coolant systems, oil systems or fuel-injection systems that produce pressures higher than 50 psi.
Can you use silicone hose for fuel?
Can you use silicone hoses for fuel hoses? Well standard silicone hoses are porous and therefore not suitable for oil or fuel. There are flurosilicone liners, which are specially formulated to prevent oil from penetrating the wall but we would not recommend these for Fuel lines, or heavy use of Fuel Filling.
Does a fuel return line have pressure?
A free flowing return line maintains consistent pressure in the system. Ending the return above the fuel level in the tank, or in the filler neck will cause aeration. This can lead to fuel starvation and pump wear.
Where does the fuel return line go?
Some fuel return hoses will run along the frame of the vehicle and go straight to the fuel tank with little as possible bends. Other fuel return lines have many bends and may be longer than normal. This helps the fuel cool down prior to entering the fuel tank.
Do electric fuel pumps run continuously?
There is no fuel return line from the engine back to the tank. The fuel pump runs continuously once the engine starts, and continues to run as long as the engine is running and the ignition key is on. The pump may run at a constant speed, or it may operate at a variable speed depending on engine load and speed.
Does a electric fuel pump need a fuel pressure regulator?
Most lever style mechanical fuel pumps don’t require a regulator and some electric fuel pumps even have the regulator built right into them, and eliminating the need to purchase an external unit.
Why do I need a fuel return hose?
Aside from providing a path for excess fuel to return to the tank, the fuel return hose also prevents vapor lock and over pressurization from occurring within the carburetor. Vapor lock occurs when the fuel pressure or temperature rises too high the fuel can begin to vaporize and cause issues.
Where are the fuel return and vapor lines?
A fuel return and two lines to a vapor separator. then the separator line to the valve breather cover. Please let me know if this sounds like a good sound idea. I am not totally sure where to run the fuel return too.
What is the fuel return line on a Chevelle?
Not sure about other Chevelles. My 70 LS-5 / M-22 has the two line fuel pump. The 1/4″ line that is attached to the long can fuel pump on my car is used a a VENT line. The gasoline fumes in the tank are transported to the fuel pump and then into the engine.
What’s the best return line for a gas tank?
3/8″ feed, 1/4 return and no reg as the internal restriction of the fuel filter maintained fuel pressure to the carb. In order to make a return line worth the effort, you’re best sending all fuel to the carb’s inlet log and returning unused from there using a bypass regulator.
