Does GW still use Finecast?

This is one of those kits that actually had a plastic replacement but for whatever reason GW never replaced the old metal one with the plastic option. Instead, they converted the metal one to finecast and it’s currently still there for sale…

Why does Gameshop use Finecast?

GW’s justification at the time was that Finecast is a premium product and more desirable than metal to their customers because it is lighter, holds paint better and is easier to build and convert. Does Citadel plastic glue work on Finecast?

Plastic glue is for plastic, Polystyrene to be precise. It kind of welds the two parts together. Only works with polystyrene. Finecast is a resin/plastic mix, so it doesn’t work.

Why do people not like resin models?

How do you glue Finecast?

Plastic glue will not work on Finecast resin or any other kind of resin. Basically plastic glue “melts” the plastic either side of where it is applied to form the bond. Superglue is your best option for resin pieces. Particularly heavy pieces can be glued using a two part epoxy if need be.

Does Finecast need to be washed?

The first thing that needs to be done is to wash the model. During the manufacturing process a mold release agent is used. Since this substance is made to inhibit sticking, it’s no good for paint adherence. Use dish washing soap and tepid water to do this.

Why is resin so bad?

Putting cheap epoxy resin in water will make chemicals leach out of it.
