Do cam gears increase horsepower?
To simplify it for you, cam gears increase torque and horsepower without having to change the camshaft(s) and are mandatory for engines that are milled, forced induction, high compression, and/or utilizing aftermarket competition cams. Performance cam gears come in two versions.
Are adjustable cam gears necessary?
The OEM cam gears are made for a comfortable ride with a set amount of horsepower and torque (more like intake and exhaust timing) and don’t need to be adjusted. Aftermarket ones are made adjustable so you can get the most most horspower and torque out of your car as possible.
What are the benefits of adjustable cam gears?
Vernier adjustable cam gears allow the cams to be advanced or retarded in relation to the crankshaft, or by adjusting just one camshaft, the amount of overlap (time when the intake and exhaust valves are open simultaneously) can also be altered.
Where is the cam gear on a car?
The camshaft gear is a car part which can be found inside the garage at home. It is attached to the camshaft with 1x10mm bolt.
What does a camshaft gear do?
The purpose of timing gears is to allow the camshaft and crankshaft to turn the timing chain. The crankshaft turns to move pistons up and down inside the cylinders. The camshaft turns to allow intake and exhaust valves on the cylinders to open and close. These components are important for proper engine timing.
Do cam gears make a difference?
If your car is stock…the cam gear weighs less than the stock one, but you wouldn’t see a difference in power. You’ll need to dyno tune this to put some power to the ground.
